Application 2.2 BM and IBFB

Top level User Interface for Breeding Manager and IB Fieldbook
We should abandon the idea of separating the BM and IBFB, but rather replace the top level user interface with one that contains two main menus – one for BM and the other for IBFB. Then we should have a start-up command line switch which causes one or other of the menus to be hidden depending on the value of a key. Then the application can be started in BM mode or in IBFB mode.
The opening screen work look as follows when opened with all menus, but would lack one of the Breeding Manager or IB Fieldbook menus when opened in a constrained format.

The Breeding Manager Menu

  • Import germplasm – would access the new germplasm import wizard
  • Prepare germplasm lists - would access the existing (g) functionality with the Excel tab replaced by a link to the new germplasm import wizard.
  • Make crosses – would access the (m) + crosses functionality with improved crossing functionality as required by maize and Wheat programs
  • Make a nursery book – this would check whether an existing Study was open. If not the user would be asked to create a new study or select and existing one (new window I think). If an existing one is open indicate that the nursery will be created in that Study and offer the Nursery Wizard or the Nursery Quick Creation form.
  • Import data for a nursery - this would check whether an existing Study was open. If not the user would be asked to open and existing study and load a nursery. Then the import data button is already available.
  • Advance lines from a nursery- this would check whether an existing Study was open. If not the user would be asked to open and existing study and load a nursery. Then the advance nursery button is already available.
  • Update seed inventory – Ask the user to open a germplasm list (like the (g) menu) and import inventory for that list.

The IB Fieldbook Menu

  • Import germplasm – would access the new germplasm import wizard
  • Prepare germplasm lists - would access the existing (g) functionality with the Excel tab replaced by a link to the new germplasm import wizard.
  • Make a trial field book - – this would check whether an existing Study was open. If not the user would be asked to create a new study or select and existing one (new window I think). If an existing one is open indicate that the trial will be created in that Study and offer the Trial Wizard or the Trial Quick Creation form.
  • Import data for a field book - this would check whether an existing Study was open. If not the user would be asked to open and existing study and load a trial fieldbook. Then the import data button is already available.
  • Advance lines from a trial - this would check whether an existing Study was open. If not the user would be asked to open and existing study and load a trial fieldbook. Then the advance button should be made available.
  • Update seed inventory – Ask the user to open a germplasm list (like the (g) menu) and import inventory for that list.
